This Croatian 230-Foot Organ Uses Ocean Water To Create Hauntingly Beautiful Music

Do you remember collecting seashells during the summer and holding them up to your ear afterward to see if you could hear the ocean?

Some shells never could create the sound, whereas other shells would sound like the ocean for months and months. I used to line these special shells on my windowsill every summer until there was no room left.

In Croatia, you don't need to collect shells in order to hear the amazing sounds made only by the ocean.

Local architect Nikola Basic invented an ocean organ in 2005. The organ creates beautifully haunting music using ocean water.

From a profile view, the organ looks like a set of steps leading to the ocean. But in fact, the steps have perfectly placed holes in which the ocean water enters and is then channeled into echo chambers to create a unique sound.

After the water enters the holes on the bottom steps, it passes through the chambers and comes out of the top steps in musical form. You have to hear the sounds in the video below to truly appreciate their beauty! Would you like to visit this organ in person? I'd love to hear it live.
