I Never Believed In ‘Mystical’ Powers — Then I Got My First Crystal Healing

Some people believe in all things mystical and supernatural, while other folks are definite skeptics. I always fell into the latter camp.

Still, I've always been interested in things like horoscopes, psychics, Magic 8-Balls, and basically anything that can help tell my future.

While this sort of stuff may intrigue me, I can't fight my logical mind, which keeps reminding me that these things aren't real.

Also, it's worth noting that anything mystical kind of spooks me. That's why I have yet to go to a professional psychic. What if I don't like what they have to say?

However, some of my friends are really interested in crystals and chakras, and they convinced me to give "crystal healing" a shot.

Not only are certain kinds of crystals supposed to boost your mood and have a physical impact on your body, they are also pretty and remind me of my childhood mineral collection.

So, despite my simultaneous fascination and phobia to all things psychic, I decided to give crystals a try to see what would happen.

What Is A Crystal Healing?

What exactly is a crystal healing? Typically, it's a two-part process. First, the practitioner "reads" you with crystals. Then, they assign you certain crystals to heal your mind, body, and soul.

How does the reading work? Every practitioner has a different approach. According to my research, there are plenty of ways to have a crystal reading. Some of them involve a pendulum, while others use cards.

What does the reading tell you? All of these methods share the same objective, which is to clarify  your future by providing some insight about your past and present.

What happens next? Typically, the reader will ask you some questions about your life and any problems you may be having, then assign you corresponding crystals according to their expertise and reading.

What do the crystals do? Each different type of crystal is supposed to have different vibrations. These vibrations give the crystals different properties that are supposed to help with everything from physical ailments to psychological distress.

My Crystal Healing Pre-Reading

I picked where to go to get my crystal healing based on positive reviews. The place I chose does readings by photographing your aura with a special camera that claims to be able to detect energy fields.

From their, they figure out who you are, and come up with the right crystal regimen to help you.

When I showed up to the place after work, I was surprised to see a line, because the reviews said it wasn't usually busy.

Then again, it makes sense if it's popular. The place, which was technically a jewelry store that specialized in healing crystals, was small, so I waited for the large groups to leave before there was enough space for my roommate and I to fit in.

Picture Time

Once we got inside, we were ushered directly to the aura camera.

It looked like an old-fashioned Polaroid camera, and honestly felt a little like you were getting your passport photo taken.

That is, except for the fact that you put your hands on the sensor things, which I'm guessing helped read heat.

They snapped your photo, and like a Polaroid, the image was printed out. We had to wait a few minutes for it to develop.

The Reading Results Are In

When our photos were finally ready, my worst nightmares were realized. Surprise, surprise! Mine was the red one.

I have to admit that I hadn't read a lot about auras and what each color meant, but my visceral reaction to being completely red was not a good one.

"Am I evil?" I asked the nice man who was about to tell me that no, I wasn't evil. Actually, I was just tired.

Root chakra, which is red, is associated with your body's vital functions. When it's imbalanced, it's hard for the other, higher healing to take place.

As you can see, my roommate's aura was slightly the same as mine, but not as "aggressive," to use the picture-taker's words.

I also checked around to see that the camera wasn't just "feeling red" that day. Plenty of people had blue, purple, green, and so on, so I am officially exhausted — or at least that's what the camera said.

While being stressed and tired isn't the type of thing you necessarily need go to get your aura read to find out, it was interesting to have some outside confirmation of my tired state.

Let The Healing Begin

After confirming that I needed some negative energy sucked from my body, I was sent to a chair surrounded by crystals. On one side, I placed my hand on black obsidian stone, while the other hand went on quartz. Obsidian is supposed to absorb bad energy, while quartz is known as the "master healer" stone because it replenishes energy.

The chair acts like a circuit, putting good energy in and sucking the bad out.

I was a little skeptical sitting on this, but I have to admit that something felt a little weird.

I got serious tingles while sitting down, and I definitely felt some sort of energy transfer happening.

The reader told me that some people feel like there is a waterfall gushing down on them. I wasn't feeling exactly that, though it was more like a sprinkle.

Post Healing

I decided on quartz, the master healer itself, as my crystal. The healer told me to hold it and more or less think happy thoughts.

I continued to do this and think it really made me feel better. Whether or not that's because I wasn't making any conscious effort to be positive before it is unclear.

He also told me that I could charge my crystal in moonlight. Sadly, I got my reading done while the moon was just a sliver, so I have to wait until it's nice and full again to "charge" my crystal. Think it will take a smartphone charger instead?

Conclusions

Does my crystal work? I have been wearing my new crystal for almost a week and have to admit that is does make me feel energized when I touch it.

I am fully aware that I could be a victim of the placebo effect, but either way, the results are in — and they're positive.

Would I do it again? I would be interested in getting my aura read again (a cycle is supposed to last a few weeks) and maybe get some more specific crystals to let the healing really begin.

Would I recommend this to a friend? I would recommend this to anyone who is curious about this type of thing, but also can't handle a full on psychic reading. Or anyone who likes pretty rocks, too!
