Pennsylvania Dad Arrested After Dropping Garage Pipe Bomb He Made for ‘Entertainment’ Purposes

Dads in particular are sometimes infamous for their risky behaviors. Whether it is roughhousing with kids, engaging in adrenaline-seeking behavior, or plain old miscalculations, dads seem to push the limits when it comes to “fun.” That’s not just coming from me, a mom who admittedly has balked a few times at the choices my son’s father and uncles have made with him. It’s a statistical fact.

The Case Management Society of America reports that in 2021 alone, nearly 130,000 people died from unintentional injuries, and over 70% of them were men. Now, I am not saying all men are utterly reckless, but the odds certainly aren’t in their favor. And you can’t necessarily say it is a “phase” mischievous boys grow out of, because believe me, grown men are just as guilty.

Just recently, a Pennsylvania dad tested the limits of fun and mortality.

How might he have been contributing to this stereotype, you ask? Why, with his garage creation that ended up injuring him and led him to receiving a few charges.

On April 11, 2026, Travis Peachey, 51, of Narvon, Pennsylvania, reportedly dropped a pipe bomb outside of his home in Lancaster County, per People. Peachey reportedly told police he was “preparing entertainment” for guests by way of a homemade bomb after authorities began investigating when the man was rushed to an emergency department.

According to court documents obtained by Fox 17, he used a PVC pipe and filled it with black powder and a motorcycle switch to detonate it. However, his guests canceled.

Peachey found himself with an active bomb he had no ‘reason’ to set off.

He reportedly set out to disarm the homemade device. He had retreated to his family garage, which was luckily far enough away from his home where his wife and children were, when he dropped it. His wife said she heard the loud explosion, and moments later her husband rushed in saying he needed to go to the hospital immediately, per Fox 17. Peachy reportedly had injuries to his face and eye, and medical staff had to remove shrapnel from his head.

Peachey was arrested the same day. “His charges include three counts of recklessly endangering another person, three counts of attempted aggravated assault, two counts of endangering the welfare of children, risking catastrophe and possession of an explosive,” according to People.

Officials reportedly found a hole in his garage in the floor, affirming his story.

Peachey was taken in to Lancaster County Prison and his bail was set to $500,000, according to ABC 27. His preliminary hearing will take place on April 15.

People online are roasting the dad for his “thoughtless” experiment.

“If this would have happened in 1970s Narvon the shed would be completely gone,” wrote one fan of local radio show Preston and Steve’s “Bizarre File” Report, which posted about the incident on YouTube.

“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes,” someone commented on the WJAC-TV Facebook page where the story was posted.

“I’m so glad I don’t have friends that want to entertain me with pipe bombs,” another person wrote.

“He definitely gets the Darwin award!” someone else chimed in on the post.
