A leisurely Father’s Day stroll turned into a nightmare for one family in Washington state after a dad made a grim discovery along the beach at Dash Point State Park. He, his wife, and their two kids were walking along the beach when they discovered a gift-wrapped box in green cloth with a yellow string tied around it. Thinking it could have been a Native American prayer bundle or some kind of treasure, he opened it up eagerly.
Only then did he discover a severed human toe alongside other “creepy” finds.
“I set the box down on the ground, I believe, and I used my knife to pick the rag up and open it, and it was a severed human big toe that was in there,” Kevin Ewing told the Kent Reporter. “At first I was very shocked, and it took me a few minutes to kind of be like, ‘Is this what I think it is?’ Then once it dawned on me that that’s what it was, I set everything down.”
The other items included a feather, sage, lavender, a pocket knife, tobacco, and a rag. He also claimed that not far from the box site, he saw a mutilated and skinned seagull, though it is currently unclear if they two are related.

“You know, it’s just very creepy. It’s like something you would see in a horror movie,” he said. “You know, a lot of things are going through my head like, ‘Where is the rest of the body?’ Like, ‘Did this wash in from the tide, from the water? Did somebody leave this here intentionally to be found?’”
The dad promptly reported the discovery to a park ranger, who handed it over to the Washington State patrol officials for further investigation, per KIRO. Police took the toe to the King Country Medical Examiner’s office to try to determine if it is connected to any open cases.
