Sometimes, we believe that we can diagnose ourselves.
We think that we have simple, passing symptoms, so we don't worry and we let our bodies work out the cold, or whatever it is, on its own.
And sometimes, that works out fine. But sometimes, it doesn't.
For Mark Camamile, it did not work out fine at all.
This 33-year-old father of two, and husband to his wife Wendy, thought that he had the "man flu."
He didn't have very severe symptoms, and he didn't check in with his doctor.
But when suddenly he started to turn blue and he couldn't breathe regularly, his shocked wife rushed him to the hospital. He passed out when they arrived at the hospital.
What followed is a terrifying battle — but also one in which his family's love and care shone through. Scroll down to read more about his harrowing journey.

Before the day he was rushed to the hospital, Camamile thought he was fine.
Assuming he was just dealing with regular, but exaggerated, symptoms, he thought nothing of his aches and pains.
But, the flu that he thought he had, was actually a rare blood disease that left him coming out of the hospital a transformed man.

After being put into a medically induced coma for four weeks, he woke up just to be told that he had undergone a life changing transformation.
The surgeons had to amputate his right hand and both legs.

As a mechanic, he was always doing physical work, so he needs both of his hands.
Devastatingly, the illness and following amputations severely affected his ability to complete that job.

So, they've started a crowdfunding account in order to raise money for a bionic hand for him.
If you click here, you can share this page on Facebook for him and possibly get the last bits of money that he needs to be able to work again.
Although he'll never be the same, every little bit helps.

They thankfully reached the goal for his bionic hand, but now they decided to ask for a bit more help to get him back to normalcy.
Donations are being asked for his legs, too.

We can all learn from Camamile's story, and hopefully never let our symptoms go unnoticed, or self-diagnosed again.
He's very lucky to have such a loving, supportive family, that has not left his side through this shocking heartbreak.
