In the case of an emergency in a public place, sometimes all you can do is hope that there are people around who know how to appropriately respond to the situation.
For example, in the event of a medical episode that requires immediate attention, there is hopefully someone in your proximity who knows how to perform CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, or whatever else might be necessary.
One Walmart shopper was lucky there were Good Samaritans nearby who were willing and capable of helping her when a stranger reached out for her baby and started choking the 4-month-old in a checkout line.
The terrified mother screamed, grabbing the attention of several people, including one father-to-be who didn't hesitate to jump to action.
He and several others, including an officer, managed to get the man off the baby, much to the relief of the mother.
Both left the Walmart safe and unharmed, and the man was taken away by police.
Now they're crediting this man, as well as other bystanders, with saving the infant from what could have been a terrible fate. Not only did the perpetrator — a perfect stranger to the mother — try to choke the child, he also tried kidnapping him before being pinned down on the ground.
