Welcome to the world of rhythmic gymnastics, where grueling athleticism collides with pure emotion and aesthetics.
The difference between rhythmic and regular gymnastic competitions is that the dancers usually work an apparatus like hula hoops, ribbons, medicine balls and more into their routines. These athletes might be tiny and fun to look at, but what they put their bodies through is truly unimaginable for someone like me, who can't even do a handstand. As you will see in the following video, never underestimate the power of a tiny dancer!
Here we see Russian World Champion rhythmic gymnast Daria Kondakova do a groundbreaking routine using the ball. While it may not sound like much more than a side show act, I was extremely shocked by how incredibly talented she is. This act must have taken so long to perfect, because it's completely flawless. By just a few seconds into her performance, I was completely blown away.
What really boggles my mind is how Kondakova can pull off all of the "normal" moves of a champion gymnast while still balancing the ball like a true master. Maybe it's just me, but I could never imagine doing two such complex actions at the same time.
