Social media allows users to open up and share their unique perspectives and expertise. One area that is eye opening is how people behave to service industry professionals. It is amazing how badly people can treat a restaurant server. Riding this wave, one Denny’s employee, who goes by @susalva, took to TikTok to vent her frustrations about a group of customers who came into the restaurant, had a baby shower and birthday celebration, and wanted to split the check.
This server was expecting fellow TikTok users to be on her side on this one but instead faced much backlash for her video. Some users believe she was just complaining about things that were technically in her job description.
Sus’ original video shows herself at the computer working on the checks. The text “POV having a baby shower @ dennys and all separate checks” is overlaid on the video as the audio stating “side eye” plays in the background. Sus further explains in the caption, “they ended making it a baby shower/ birthday.” She was not pleased about the situation.
The majority of the comments tell a different story, though. One user even wrote a not-so-nice retort, saying, “not the Dennys server looking down on customers.”
Another fellow server did not think splitting a check was a big deal. “Idk when I was a server I didn’t mind splitting the checks at all,” they wrote.
Sus went on to explain her anger since many did not seem to understand her. She was annoyed the party did not utilize one of the banquet rooms for this purpose. “[They] took 3 tables of mine then tried to take a boost, which left me with only 3. Only tipped $25 bby that’s not close to 20%,” she added. Sus did not expect the internet to not be on her side on this one.
