Denver Newborn Baby Needed Stitches After Surgeon Ripped Open Her Face During C-Section

A Denver family had the exciting moment of a new addition to the family dampened when they realized what happened to their sweet baby girl.

Reazjhana Williams and husband Damarqus Williams welcomed a little girl named Kyanni Williams on June 15, 2022. The original plan was for Reazjhana to deliver naturally at Denver Health, but things changed.

"They gave me a pill to speed up my labor and a few minutes after that I was being rushed into an emergency C-section," the new mom told KDVR.

"They said our baby made a sudden movement, they couldn't hear her heartbeat or find it, and they took her into an immediate C-section," Damarqus noted.

Kyanni was handed to her parents with a large gash on her face. "They said her face was close to the placenta wall," Damarqus shared.

"I tried to be understanding about what happened, but on top of the fact her face got cut and a plastic surgeon had to come do it, there's just a lot of things I'm not understanding with the C-section," Reazjhana said.

"I've never heard of anybody having to deal with their baby's face looking like this after a C-section."

"It's upsetting, she's not comfortable," Damarqus said of the baby.

Denver Health has released a statement about the incident.

"Denver Health has been in touch with the family directly. While this is a known medical complication in emergency C-sections, our focus is always on providing care in the best interest of the mother and child," the statement said.

"At Denver Health, the safety and well-being of our patients is our number one priority."

A GoFundMe page raised over $11,000 to help the family with medical expenses related to the incident.
