Turn An Old Chair Into A Beautiful Swing

Like most people, I hate wasting good things. When a piece of furniture breaks or a good shirt tears, it's difficult for me to part with it. Instead, I like to find clever ways to reuse or repurpose it.

But sometimes, it can be difficult to find good ways to "up-cycle" old stuff. Despite all the great ideas floating around online, sometimes it's tempting to just toss it and say, "Good riddance."

That's why I was so excited when I came across this brilliant craft. Thanks to Amy from This DIY Life, I now know what to do with an old chair when it breaks. Of course, I like this craft so much that I may try to seek out a good yard sale deal. And if you like this awesome project, check out her blog for more DIY ideas!

For less than $30, what used to be broken, would-be tinder can become a beautiful, unique, and rustic backyard accent. It's also great for anyone who has kids coming around the house. Who knew such an ingenious idea could be so simple?

Next, find a strong, solid tree branch in your yard. Drill two eye bolts into the branch. Make sure they're nice and tight.

Buy some thick, durable rope. Amy chose yellow to play off of her bright blue chair.

Next, remove the legs from your chair of choice.

Drill two holes on the seat of the chair.

And do the same thing on top of the chair.

Next, to make her chair easily removable, Amy tied her ropes to two metal clips. She used a very secure bowline knot.

Next, they climbed up to clip the swing to the eye bolts. (Always be sure to have a buddy spot you when climbing a ladder!)

They then hoisted the chair and hung it two feet from the ground. They also made sure it was even so no one would tip out.

Amy snipped the excess rope, then stepped back to admire her fine work.
