Disabled Vet Gets An Anonymous Boost From Fellow Serviceman

In this big, crazy, world, it always warms my heart to see neighbors helping one another out, and not looking for anything in return.

There’s something really special about people who just step up to the plate when they can see someone needs help, like this sweet Boston cop did when he saw a woman looking for food.

In fact, the only thing better than a random act of kindness is one that’s directed at America’s veterans. These men and women, who risk so much protecting our country, deserve a little good fortune here and there.

Right now, there’s an especially touching post circulating on the Facebook page Love What Matters that does a beautiful job of showing human kindness at its very best.

It’s just one photo and a quick note, but the moment, captured by a disabled Vietnam vet, shows the incredible bond between all people who have served across the armed forces.

Check out the moving photo and the story behind it below!

This photo first appeared on Love What Matters in late May.

The image features a crumpled $10 bill, set next to note.

The note reads: "Lunch is on me, Soldier! Thank you for your dedicated service. From a retired Marine chopper pilot – Semper Fi"

The man who received the note uploaded it to content-sharing site Reddit with a few notes on his own backstory, and the story quickly made it to Facebook.

He explains that he was recognized by the retired Marine for his plates, which list him as a disabled Army vet.

The original note and his brief heartfelt response garnered 34,000 likes and more than 3,000 shares in just a couple of days.

Since the note was tucked under his windshield wiper, we imagine that the vet who received the note probably thought he was getting a ticket.

He notes on Reddit that his car is marked with Purple Heart plates, but sometimes disabled vets do mistakenly get ticketed for parking in handicapped spots.

Fortunately, when he approached his car, he found a surprise of a very different kind.

Marines and Army aren't generally known for being close.

In fact, these two very different branches of the United States armed forces have something of a historic rivalry.

That said, nobody knows what a serviceman has been through like another serviceman.

Servicemen and women also have a knack for recognizing one another out of uniform.

Sure, having special plates on the car is a bit of a giveaway, but lots of vets from all branches of the forces say that often, you just know a fellow warrior.

The two men probably never would have had the occasion to meet, except that this small chance encounter brought them together.

The impact of this sweet post was clear straightaway.

The comments section filled up quickly, with lots of people applauding the kind gesture.

One mom even told a brief story about her little boy drawing a flag at a restaurant for a soldier he saw.

All of these heartwarming stories add up to one incredible community supporting our troops!
