Scientists Are Taking To Twitter To Defeat Sexism In The Workplace

The highly competitive fields of mathematics and the sciences have usually always had a vast majority of male involvement.

It wasn't until quite recently that female scientists were allowed to study in the same classrooms as their male counterparts. In these "all boys clubs" it's been a constant uphill battle for these pioneering women to finally receive the respect they've always deserved to begin with.

So when Nobel Prize-winning scientist Tim Hunt made a sexist and inflammatory remark at a women's luncheon, the women of the scientific community were all a bit baffled and needless to say enraged.

Making his case for gender-specific laboratories he said, "Let me tell you about my trouble with girls," said Hunt, "Three things happen when they are in the lab… You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you and when you criticize them, they cry.”

Since that derogatory comment, the women of the scientific community have taken to Twitter to openly mock his backwards ways. Many of the hilarious photos show women in full "science gear," covering their eyes with protective goggles, mouths, and entire bodies with protective scientific equipment.

These women all went through rigorous years of schooling to get where they are, and for Hunt to just place all of them in big group of emotional, sniveling crybabies is offensive not just to women, but to the scientific process as a whole. Luckily, the women are all smart enough not to give his statement too much power, and they've truly reacted in the most hilariously cutting way possible.

With the hashtag #DistractinglySexy, they've officially beaten back sexism in the scientific community!

Which twitter photo is your favorite? We love all of them, but #7 is particularly cutting. Let us know in the comments below if you think women are just as qualified to be scientists as men are!
