After a stressful day, there's nothing better than taking a long, hot bath.
Baths can be relaxing and calming, and they're a nice way to take some "me time."
Some people choose to put bubbles in their baths, while others prefer to use bath bombs. Lots of people have one favorite bath addition, though: bath salts.
Instead of buying bath salts at the store, though, make your own! Salt has a lot of uses, including health benefits!
It's actually surprisingly simple to make bath salts at home — you probably even have most of the supplies at home.
And bathing with DIY bath salts is really great for you. Epsom salts, which are in most bath salts, have a ton of health benefits, including stress relief, body relaxation, muscle and nerve function, relieving pain and muscle cramps, and more.
Read below to learn how to make your own DIY bath salts!
Step #1: Gather Supplies
In order to make these DIY bath salts, you'll need to following items:
- Epsom salts (1 cup per jar)
- Food coloring
- Baking soda (1 tbsp. Per jar)
- Coarse sea salt (1.5 cups per jar)
- Essential oils (4-8 drops per jar)
- Labels
- Plastic sandwich bags
- Glass jars
- Large mixing bowl
- Whisk
Step #2: Mix Dry Ingredients
Once you have all your supplies, dump the epsom salt, baking soda, and sea salt into your large mixing bowl.
Stir to combine the dry ingredients.
Step #3: Add Essential Oils
Next, add some drops of your favorite essential oils — some favorites are lavender, peppermint, and citrus.
If you want the salts to be less fragrant, only add four drops. For more fragrant bath salts, add closer to eight drops.
Step #4: Put Mixture Into Plastic Sandwich Bag
Next, grab your resealable sandwich bags, and spoon the salt mixture into the bag.
Keep the bag unsealed for now.
Step #5: Add Food Coloring To Bag
Next, add a few drops of food coloring into the bag.
Choose colors that you find calming, and make sure they go with the scent you chose.
Step #6: Shake Sandwich Bag
Next, shake up the sandwich bag to mix in the color.
If you'd prefer not to shake the bag, you can knead the color into the salt with your fingers.
Step #7: Spoon Bath Salts Into Jar
Once the color is fully mixed into the salts, spoon or pour the salt mixture into your small glass jar.
If you have extra salt leftover, put it into another jar.
Step #8: Repeat With Other Essential Oils And Colors
Next, make some more bath salts!
Use other colors and other essential oils to make yourself a nice array of luxurious bath salts.
Step #9: Close Jars And Label Them
Once you're finished making the bath salts and putting them into jars, close the lids and put labels on them.
If you're making these as a gift, now is a great time to put cute little notes on the jars!
Step #10: Use And Enjoy!
Spoon or pour the bath salts into your bath, swirl them around, and enjoy!
