We've seen some pretty ingenious DIY hacks over the years, but this one might just be the coolest. While you might never find yourself in a position to need this special little trick, we have to say it's a great little piece of information to have just in case!
Keys always seem to have a nasty little habit of getting themselves lost. And while we do our best to have spares, we might find ourselves handing out keys to family members because they need it right then and there. If you're forced to give away a key or you plan on losing it anytime soon, this little hack is a great way to keep a copy with your key and you don't have to spend a dime!
All you'll need is a regular lighter, tape, scissors, and the top to a tin can. This little project is potentially dangerous, so you'll probably want to wear gloves and you don't want to do this with the kids! This hack should be used only if you really need to copy a key right away.
Lighting the key on fire and attaching it to some tape, you'll manage to make a perfect outline of the key. Then, sticking it to the top of the tin can, you can slowly (and safely) cut out the exact match to the key. In a few minutes you'll have made yourself an extra spare key — just make sure not to lose this one, too!
