If you've ever lost your keys, you know that finding a way to open your front door, mailbox, or car is a hassle. Often, calls need to be made, either to a roommate or significant other. You may even need to pay a visit to the landlord or locksmith. The process of getting a new lock or set of keys is extremely tedious and stressful. But with this new hack, you can put off those calls and visits for a day or two. It's so easy to make a copy of your keys are home, and all you need are a few basic items. Unfortunately, this means that others can easily copy your keys, too, so remember, you want to be careful where you put them.
Place your key next to a flat object on a piece of white paper. This flat object can be anything, from a coin to ruler: It'll be used for accurate scaling.
Take a picture of the two objects, upload it to a computer, and print it out. You may need to try several times before getting the size right: The copy and the actual object need to be exactly the same size.
Once you have a good copy, roughly cut out the picture of the key, and tape it on the lid of a tin or aluminium can (any food can would work).
