This may look like an ordinary albeit beautiful dollhouse, but look closer…it's not as it appears to be.
Back in 2005, installation artist Heather Benning of Toronto, Canada acquired a rundown old farmhouse that would soon become of her masterpieces.
Over the course of eight years, Heather transformed the rickety, abandoned late '60s-era home into what would become known as "the Dollhouse." She finished the project on March 23rd, 2013, but unfortunately, it burned down that same month, as its foundation was crumbling and had been in disrepair for some time.
Nevertheless, Heather insisted that "the house was only meant to stand as long as it remained safe," and photographs of her life-sized dollhouse were featured in Toronto's "Telephone Booth Gallery." She even shared the photos of the fire that consumed her work with the gallery, making the flames a work of art in their own right!

The Dollhouse at dusk in 2013.

This incredible house stood until March 2013 near Sinclair Manitoba off of Ontario Highway 2 in Toronto.

Plexiglass covering the north-facing wall allowed you to see inside from the outside.

Heather spent 18 months re-shingling the roof with with recycled shingles.

The simple colors and furniture inside made the house look ordinary from up close.

The old-fashioned '60s kitchen transports you back to a simpler time.

The house even had its own rotary telephone!

All of the little details Heather added made this project truly special.

The house looked and felt lived in...

...though from far off, it would be easy to imagine it as a child's plaything.

Heather enjoys finding old things and restoring them in unique ways.

Even though the Dollhouse burned down, it will forever be remembered and enjoyed in photographs!

The photographs Heather took of the fire have a striking beauty to them as well, the mark of a true artist...
