One homeless man in Sarasota, FL is getting lots of attention after a video caught him performing a secret talent.
A video of him playing the piano was posted on Facebook by Aroar Natasha on June 29 along with the caption, "Just took my breath away. Wow." It quickly received millions of views.
Every day, Donald Gould, 51, plays one of the seven pianos placed in the city by the Sarasota Keys project, a nonprofit organization bringing “art and music to the vibrant downtown Sarasota district.” It’s hard not to be in awe of his talent, like the homeless man with the "golden voice."
“It is my passion. I just like to make people happy out there when I’m playing," Gould told Florida’s news station WFLA. "I put my hat out there and sit it on top of the keyboard in hopes of making tips because I’m homeless."
As for his sudden fame, Gould said, “It’s overwhelming to me. I can’t believe it. I‘m still fighting off tears."
Gould, a former Marine, has had a difficult life. He said his wife died in 1998 and his son was taken away from him because of Gould’s drug addiction.
“Every day it’s painful,” he said of losing his son. “There’s not a day that’s gone by since they took him from me that I haven’t thought about him. He turned 18 last August 24. I wish he would come and find me.”
