On September 1, 2016, Yevette drove her son to school just like she always does. But before she dropped him off, the North Texas mother had no idea that the rest of her day would be unlike any other — and go viral in the process.
When Yevette pulled up to the school, she realized the parking lot was way more crowded than usual. She asked her son, Elijah, if there was something special going on at school that day.
That morning, there was a Donuts with Dad event in which students and their fathers shared donuts and conversation.
But here's the thing: Yevette is a single mother, and Elijah's father isn't in the picture. She knew immediately that she didn't want her boy to feel left out and miss out on such an important event at school — so she turned the car around and devised a plan.

Yevette Vasquez is a single mother from Fort Worth, Texas.
Elijah, her son, is the light of her life.

While dropping Elijah off at school one morning, Yevette couldn't help but notice there were more cars in the parking lot than usual.
She asked him if there was something going on at school that day.

Elijah told Yevette there was indeed an event happening at school — "Donuts with Dad," a meet-up where students and their fathers come together to bond and enjoy breakfast.
As a single mom, Yevette knew it was difficult for Elijah to see his peers with their dads.
She didn't want him to miss out on the event or feel sad that he couldn't attend.

Yevette decided to turn the car around and quickly change her outfit to look like a dad.
She put on a baseball hat, plaid shirt, baggy pants… and a mustache.
The pair snapped a selfie in the car before heading into the school.

Yevette shared her story on Facebook:
"Good morning, today at my son Elijah's skewl as I was dropping him off i ask him why there was so many cars… He said Donuts with Dad, so we quickly went back home cause I wasn't about to let him miss out….. I know seeing other dads with there kids isn't easy for mine but its life, at least I can do whatever it takes to put a smile on that face, so here it goes….. and please don't hate I know I'm a woman an so do my sons lol #ilovehim #wegettingthemdonuts #noexcuses"

At first, Yevette was nervous to walk inside the event dressed like a man, but seeing how happy it made her son made it totally worth it.

Yevette's Facebook post quickly went viral, inspiring thousands across the country. She's being hailed a hero mom for doing whatever it took to make her son happy.
One commenter says, "I didn't have a dad. It was hard. Wish my mom did that. She was both my mom and dad starting from a young age."
Yevette returned to Facebook to share her appreciation for all the praise: “It’s so much more then I ever expected to happen, and my heart is so full from all the love and support,” she said in a Facebook message. “Me and my little ones are grateful because it was definitely a moment we will never forget!”
