When 86-year-old Doris Deither went for a stroll in Washington Square Park, she had no idea her life was going to change forever.
Doris was a dance critic, community activist and all around firecracker. Though she and her husband tried before he died, they never had any children.
While many would see Doris' life at face value and believe it is lonely, there's a whole lot more to her.
Street performer and puppeteer Ricky Syers struggled to find himself in a lifetime of manual labor. Now 50 years old, he has devoted himself to his puppetry and a little old lady named Doris.
This short documentary tells the story of how Doris and Ricky met each other at the park and infused each other with new life.
"He was doing his puppets in the park and I am very interested in puppets. I brought him a few of the articles I had written for the paper," Doris said.
Getting older doesn't mean the allure of performance and art goes away. When this granny heard the music, she couldn't help but dance in the street.
Doris couldn't help but reach out to Ricky. "So the next time he saw me he says, 'Oh, I have something for you.' " She recalls. What he gave her changed their lives forever.
The offbeat street performer and the eccentric widow form an unlikely friendship that is the most touching thing you'll see all day.
