3-Year-Old Josiah Brown Dies After Aunt Allegedly Pushes Him Into Lake Michigan

There is a heartbreaking update to the tragic incident that occurred on September 19, 2022. A 3-year-old is dead after fighting for his life for six days.

On September 19, 2022, Josiah Brown was allegedly pushed into Lake Michigan by his aunt, Victoria Moreno. She allegedly watched for a half-hour as he struggled in the water. He was rescued by emergency personnel and taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital in critical condition. He fought valiantly for six days before being pronounced dead on Sunday, September 25, at 10:16 a.m.

According to NBC Chicago, on the morning of September 19 Moreno took Josiah and snuck out of the family home located in Des Plaines, Illinois. This is a nearby suburb of Chicago. No one noticed that she allegedly stole the keys to the family truck.

Moreno currently faces two felony charges. They are attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery to a child. It is anticipated that these charges will be increased with the death of Josiah.

According to NBC News, the Cook County State Attorney's Office issued a statement addressing possible additional charges for Moreno: “At this time, charges have not been upgraded in this case. We anticipate that additional charges may be filed after the medical examiner’s office and police department have completed their investigations.”
