This Mom Did Something Incredible For Her Family Before She Passed Away. I’m in TEARS!

It's hard to imagine a life without a mom. The caretaker of the home, the purveyor of unconditional love — for many homes, it isn't where the heart is, it's where mom is.

Perhaps the only thing more difficult than losing a mom is learning that, as a mother, you are going to die.

Emily Phillips, a 69-year-old from Jacksonville, FL, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. However, she was not going to let that discovery decide her fate.

A mere 29 days after the diagnosis, Phillips died. The retired elementary school teacher left behind two children and her beloved husband.

What she did for them before she passed away is one of the kindest gestures a mom can do for her family.

There's nothing that can fill the void of losing a loved one. The only way to find solace is often by honoring their memory. Whether that's with photographs, sharing their stories, or lighting a candle for them, it's important that we keep them alive in our own special way for as long as we can.

It's hard not to become enamored with what Phillips did for her family. It was touching, kind, and incredibly bittersweet.

Most of us don't know when our last days will approach, but if Phillips' gesture proves anything, it's that the people we leave behind are the ones who matter most.
