Soldier Elopes With Lover. 50 Years Later, He’s Dying And Decides To Marry Her One Last Time

It's been 50 years since Charles Upton and his wife Isabel were married. The Vietnam veteran says that it was love at first sight: Even though he was engaged to be married when he met her, the two eloped.

Their love story started when Charles was recruited to teach English to young Isabel. She only knew Spanish, but it wasn't long before their love blossomed.

Throughout the years, they lived happily, building a life and family together. But now, after 50 years of marriage, Charles is dying. He's been fighting cancer for the past few years, and doctors have given him about 90 days to live.

When he got sick, Charles got to work on crossing items off his bucket list. He was able to cross off one more when he remarried his wife in a beautiful ceremony in front of all their loved ones.

Isabel thought she was attending an event honoring her husband, but she instead walked in on her own wedding! Charles was there, waiting for her at the altar. She broke down in tears, touched by the gesture. The veteran says that not only did he want to give her the wedding she deserved, but he wanted to marry her one last time.

When Charles passes, Isabel will have this beautiful memory to support all the others they've made together over the past decades.
