90-Year-Old Swing Dancer Wows With Fancy Footwork

Legendary swing dancer Jean Veloz has been wowing crowds dancing to the Jitterbug and Lindy Hop since the 1940s. Today, the icon from the Big Band era continues to show off her dancing skills and fancy footwork, impressing swing dance aficionados around the world.

She’s at it again, but this time she takes on three male dancers and gives them a run for their money as she gracefully glides across the dance floor. In a performance at the Swing Patrol Super Swing Pit, Veloz, alongside Scott Cupit and other fantastic swing dancers, twist and turn and don’t miss a beat.

The crowd feasts their eyes on Veloz and clap and cheer as she lights up the room. Dressed in black and white while donning cool, vintage dancing shoes, Veloz shakes her hips and shoulders with ease. She doesn’t look her age at all! (She was 90 years old in the video.) Her dance partners appear to be over the moon having the opportunity to dance with the icon and California Swing Dance Hall of Fame inductee.

Since the 1990s, there has been a "Lindy Hop revival" that has taken off in the U.S. and around the globe. We have witnessed this with the impressive French couple who wowed at the European Swing Dance Championships, among many others.

For decades, Veloz has been rocking Los Angeles' swing dancing hot spots. Her dancing career officially kicked off in 1943 when she entered a contest at American Legion Stadium in Hollywood and won, according to her official bio. The prize was a Screen Actor’s Guild membership card and a dance cameo in the movie Swing Fever, starring Kay Kyser and Marilyn Maxwell.

Veloz went on to star in several movies, including Groovie Movie, Swingin’ On a Tea Garden Gate, and Jive Junction, among many other exciting dancing gigs.
