I knew elephants protected their young, but I've never seen them do anything like this before!
Humans are taught that road safety is important pretty much from the first time we step outside. On the other hand, many animals live their whole lives without ever knowing about cars or how dangerous they can be. So when a wild animal recognizes the caution required to safely cross a road, it's really a mark of their incredible ability to learn from and adapt to their surroundings. This family of wild elephants near the Kruger National Park in South Africa have figured out a way to get their baby across the street while protecting him from the passing cars. I couldn't believe how they planned this out!
They may look a little strange, but elephants are incredibly intelligent animals that have been known to display their emotions just like humans do. So it's no surprise that this family was able to work together to make sure the little calf got across the road safely. Not only are they protecting his life, but they're also teaching him important safety lessons for the future! Just like these elephants who helped coax their baby across the road, this family is doing a great job of teaching their youngster how to navigate a world designed for humans. But elephants aren't the only animals who have learned how to take care while crossing the street — just look at what this chimpanzee does to make sure that he makes it across safe and sound! Wild animals are truly smarter than we give them credit for.
I'm so impressed by the communication between this family of beautiful creatures. I guess great parents can come in all shapes and sizes!
