It's not often you see huge TV personalities break down in front of a camera while talking about personal matters… and that's exactly what Ellen did on her show several years ago. While viewers are usually treated to hilarious skits, pranks and monologues, Ellen gets as real as ever — and it left me speechless.
Here, Ellen tells the dramatic story of rescuing and training a shelter dog, only to have it taken away by the organization. When she realized she couldn't put in the time required to properly train the dog, she gave it to her close friend and co-worker. This family was perfect for the dog, they fell in love with the dog — but when the organization found out what Ellen had done, they took the dog out of his new family's home, and brought it back to the shelter. Ellen feels guilty and is begging them to return the dog to the family.
I couldn't help but feel Ellen's pain. I think the shelter should have given the new family a chance, visit their home and maybe even put them through the same application process as everyone else. When it comes to situations like this one, and matters of the heart, certain rules just don't need to apply.
