Ellen Gifts An Incredible Bounty To A Struggling Detroit School

Unfortunately, there are countless public schools throughout our nation that are underfunded, understaffed, and physically falling apart. The learning conditions for these students aren't only dissatisfying, but also sometimes dangerous.

But what's the best choice? Should children be kept from getting an education because the building is crumbling and there aren't enough textbooks to go around? Should schools make due with what they have?

The ideal option, of course, is to get public schools more funding, especially in the poorer communities in our country that need it the most. We all need to acknowledge that while some public schools are raising money to install a second AstroTurf football field, others are struggling to keep their students warm in the winter. While it's pretty far-fetched to think that we can get a brand new football field in every school, it really shouldn't be as unlikely to imagine every student having access to the basic materials he or she needs to learn.

Ellen DeGeneres, everyone's favorite talk show host, caught wind that Spain Elementary School in Detroit was having every problem possibly imaginable for a school, she knew she had to take action, much like the time she helped a boy after heart surgery! So, she sent her assistant Jeannie out to Detroit to give the entire school quite the big surprise.

Just when you think she couldn't do any more, one unexpected person shows up and offers something extra.
