Back in 1977, getting onto The Johnny Carson Show really meant you had "made it" as a comedian. So when Andy Kaufman was asked to perform a quick skit on that legendary stage, he knew that he was really becoming a household name.
Kaufman had always loved to sing and dance, so when he got onstage in front of millions of viewers he knew that he wanted to perform as none other than the legendary Elvis Presley. Amazingly, Elvis himself was rumored to have several tapes of Andy Kaufman's performances. Elvis long considered Andy's impersonation one of his absolute favorites of all time!
While Kaufman is indeed a comedian, when you listen to his performance it becomes clear that he actually has quite a voice. His ability to control the crowd in this hilarious video is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!
The video itself opens with Kaufman performing his famous "foreign guy" character made famous on the classic television show Taxi. He starts out with this silly little voice only to blow the crowd away when he rips off his jacket to reveal the black leather and slicked back hair!
Do you remember Andy Kaufman on SNL and Taxi? He was certainly an oddball, but he was pretty funny!
