Is there anything The King of Rock N' Roll couldn't pull off on stage?
Today, true Elvis Presley fans still love him more than ever, but there was nothing like the pandemonium when he was at the height of his career. In the late 1960s, Elvis married the love of his life, Priscilla, and welcomed his first and only child, Lisa Marie, so by the time 1970 rolled around, he felt on top of the world…and his dedicated fans were loving it!
In 1970, fans were excited for two big Elvis events: the release of a new album and a full-length concert and documentary. Both were titled "Elvis: That’s The Way It Is" and as you can see in the following clip, Elvis was going to do things on stage exactly his way.
Fans probably expected Elvis classics like "All Shook Up," "Blue Christmas," and "Can't Help Falling In Love With You," but instead they were surprised by some other familiar classics. Elvis was no stranger to a great cover song, just check out this version of him singing "Unchained Melody," but no one expected him to sing Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" the way he did.
Maybe I'm partial to the song because Caroline is the best name of all time, but I think you'll agree that this performance is exactly what made Elvis "The King."
