Always remember when your mic is on!
Wisconsin basketball player Nigel Hayes loves having fun with the stenographers after each game. To try to trip them up as they write what players and coaches say during NCAA press conferences, he picks a strange word from the dictionary and watches as they struggle to figure out what on Earth he just said. But this time, it wasn't his fancy word that left everyone giggling. In fact, I don't think he intended for any of the stenographers to hear what he said this time!
After tossing up his latest dictionary find ("syzygy"), Nigel couldn't help but notice that one stenographer stood out from the rest. He whispered to his teammate, "God, she's beautiful," and as giggles spread around the room, he realizes in horror that his buddy wasn't the only one who heard his comment. Poor Nigel looks so embarrassed, but I think the whole thing is completely adorable! It's certainly less embarrassing than all these people who claim to have listened to a speech from Martin Luther King Jr. that never happened.
Nigel certainly wouldn't be the first to have a slip-up on live TV. For instance, this reporter was caught in the drive-through when he was supposed to be ready to go live! There are many, many worse things that this basketball player could have let slip. Let's hope that this little mistake is the beginning of a romantic future for him and the beautiful mystery stenographer!
Oh, and if you were curious, syzygy is when three objects in space line up, such as with the Sun, the moon, and the Earth. Cool stuff, huh?
