When Eric Duquette was born, doctors diagnosed him with autism.
His parents were told by medical professionals that Eric would never speak, he wouldn't have a high-functioning mental capacity, and that he would probably end up institutionalized.
Though his parents heard the doctors out, instead of taking their diagnosis as written in stone, they did something else.
They did would any loving parents would do — they tackled the issue head-on.
Eric's parents make me recall Adrianna Kenebrew's mom. When Adrianna was deemed legally blind at 4 years old, instead of feeling limited, she asked for a balance beam.
Adrianna's mom complied, and today, at 11 years old, Adrianna is an incredible gymnast. She's even in the running for the olympics.
You would never know Adrianna was blind by how incredible of an athlete she is. It's all because her parents saw her abilities her limitations.
Despite Eric's autism, he did eventually speak his first words at the age of 5.
His parents taught him 10 words a day for eight hours a day, and even taught him American sign language.
Eighteen years after doctors determined Eric's learning disability would limit his ability to lead a normal life, he stands before a crowd in the below clip as a living miracle.
