  1. Fill a bucket halfway with water, than add your choice of fabric dye.

  2. Make sure that your sweater or cardigan is clipped to a hanger and hung straight.

  3. Lower the sweater or cardigan until it touches the bottom of the bucket.

  4. Let it sit in the bucket for up to 2 minutes, then lift it out to test how you like it. You can leave it in longer for a darker dye job.

4. Heart Sweater

A Beautiful Mess

For this cute DIY look, you'll need a sweater (of course), construction paper, red fabric, pins and a basic sewing kit.

Thanks to A Beautiful Mess for the following step-by-step instructions:

  1. Make a heart pattern with paper and place it on the sweater to make sure you love the size and shape.

  2. Once you've created the perfect pattern, use it to cut a heart out of your fabric. We used polyester fabric because it has some stretch and won't fray.

  3. Simply pin it in place and sew it on using the zigzag stitch.

  4. Wear your new sweater proudly!

5. Studded Sweater

This fun look is easily achieved with the help of some studs (you can buy them on eBay or at a craft's store) and a pair of needle-nose pliers.

  1. Lay out the studs on your sweater as you'd like them.

  2. Press the prongs of the first stud through the fabric and flip the sweater to the reverse so you can clearly see them.

  3. Use the pliers to bend each prong of the stud inward so that its gripping the fabric. Give a gentle tug to make sure it's fastened on.

  4. Repeat this process until you've added as many studs as you'd like!
