If you want to be a famous actor, you'd better be willing to shed the blood, sweat, and tears necessary to make it to the top of the Hollywood food chain. Acting involves taking a lot of risks, knowing the right people, and being very lucky, and even though it seems like there are a ton of famous actors out there, they're an incredibly small percentage of a very large pool of hopeful stars. But even when you've made it to the top, your place as one of Hollywood's finest isn't always guaranteed… and some of the industry's brightest stars are finding that out the hard way.
We like to hope that our favorite actors and actresses will always continue making fantastic films, but unfortunately, that's not always possible. Many Oscar-winning stars end up settling for movies that are just "OK" to try to keep their careers afloat, and unlike these washed-up celebs who have left the business entirely, they sometimes succeed. It's hard to revive such a big career after a long slump, and while some actors are able to do it thanks to lucky breaks or promoting their new work by appearing on Dancing With the Stars, many more fade into obscurity before we've even had to chance to ask, "What happened?"
If you've felt like you haven't seen any good movies put out by your favorite stars, you're not alone. Check out all these actors who haven't made a decent movie in years, and see if your favorite is on the list. Number 13 is one of my favorite actors ever, and I'm going to be distraught if he doesn't start getting the work he deserves soon!

1. Adam Sandler

The man who became famous for his roles in movies like Happy Gilmore is now commonly known as one of the most annoying actors of recent years. Movies like Jack and Jill and Pixels haven't exactly gotten rave reviews, and truthfully, his most enjoyable movie in nearly 10 years has been Hotel Transylvania, in which he voiced Dracula.
2. Jack Nicholson

The last decent movie that starred the iconic Jack Nicholson was 2007's The Bucket List. Since then, he's only acted in two movies, one of which was (somewhat amusingly) called I'm Still Here, and neither of them managed to impress audiences. While seeing this star act in another film as amazing as The Shining seems unlikely at this point, we all hope we'll get to see him act in at least one more truly good movie before he retires.
3. Lindsay Lohan

It's actually sad to think the talented actress who brought us Mean Girls and The Parent Trap has most recently starred in trainwrecks like Liz and Dick. The star's legal and personal troubles have really put a damper on her acting career, but she can hopefully revive it before it's too late.
4. Eddie Murphy

The man who starred in Dr. Doolittle and voiced iconic characters like Mushu from Mulan and Donkey from Shrek has seen his career go south in recent years. Most of his films have either been cringe-worthy disasters such as Norbit and Meet Dave or some kind of a Shrek spin-off.
5. Susan Sarandon

Sarandon is an Oscar-winning actress who had previously worked on films like Thelma and Louise and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Nowadays, though, you're more likely to see her on the very small screen; her film The Calling was a direct-to-DVD release, and she played Marilyn Monroe's mother in a Lifetime biopic.
6. Jim Carrey

The goofy guy who brought us Ace Ventura: Pet Detective has seen his movies decline in both quality and popularity in recent years. Films such as The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and the very forgettable Dumb and Dumber To have left fans of this actor longing for the days when he starred in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
7. Liam Neeson

Liam Neeson's recent string of lackluster films is particularly disappointing because he's such a spectacular actor. But unfortunately, the man who brought us Taken and Schindler's List has lately been featured in less-than-impressive flicks. Run All Night and Taken 3 might not be the worst movies ever to appear in a theater, but an actor of Neeson's caliber could definitely do better.
8. Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell definitely has a specific brand of comedy, and it's served him well in films like Anchorman and Step Brothers. It's a shame that some of his more recent movies, such as Get Hard and Daddy's Home, haven't been so hilarious.
9. Ben Stiller

Will Ferrell's fellow funny guy initially delighted fans with the announcement of Zoolander 2, but it lacked the same charm that made the original film so special. In fact, Ben Stiller hasn't acted in or produced a film that has enamored audiences since 2010's Megamind.
10. Uma Thurman

Thurman is a huge part of what made films like Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill so famous. But it's hard to imagine anything better than so-so that she's been a part of in recent years. She worked on the TV show Smash back in 2012, but most people would have no idea what you were talking about if you referenced any of the movies she's been in since My Super Ex-Girlfriend.
11. Christopher Walken

Quick! Name one movie this actor has been in since 2007. If you can't, you're not alone. This Catch Me If You Can actor has all but disappeared over the past few years thanks to his decisions to act in films like Gods Behaving Badly.
12. Drew Barrymore

After He's Just Not That Into You, it seems that Drew Barrymore's just not that into making popular movies. Apart from a few voice acting gigs on Family Guy, this actress hasn't done any noteworthy work in recent years, appearing in movies such as Going the Distance and Big Miracle.
13. Viggo Mortensen

Another extremely talented actor, Mortensen showed off his skills in the Lord of the Rings films and A History of Violence. But since his work in 2011's A Dangerous Method, he hasn't starred in any films that have caught the attention of widespread audiences.
14. Robert Pattinson

After winning hearts as Twilight's Edward Cullen and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire's Cedric Diggory, Robert Pattinson seemed destined for a steady acting career. But since Breaking Dawn came out, his work has included films that have gotten little to no press, including The Rover and Queen of the Desert.
15. Sarah Jessica Parker

The Sex and the City star has nearly disappeared from the big screen after 2011's New Year's Eve. She's worked on the TV series Divorce and acted in the movie All Roads Lead To Rome in 2015, but neither production yielded any great success.
