One of my most memorable birthdays was a princess-themed party for my fifth birthday. All the girls from my preschool class came over to my house dressed in frilly dresses, and we sat at my kitchen table to make our very own flower crowns with long ribbons streaming down that backs so that when we ran outside, they'd trail behind us. Even my teacher, Miss Anne, was there at that party.
The only thing that could have possibly made it better was this specific cake.
I loved horses when I was a little girl. I had bins full of toy horses that I'd pull out to play at any opportunity. I even had some horses that were specifically for bath time, so I'd never be without them. I mainly liked their bright colors and long, flowing manes that I could brush with the tiny purple plastic brush they came with.
This cake, while a bit complicated to create, is perfect for your little girl's birthday party if she was anything like me when I was 5 years old.
Liz Larson uses a hot purple color to accent this magical horse's features, and then uses some simple piping techniques to embellish the cake with a wispy mane and some beautiful blue flowers.
Don't you think that your little one would absolutely love to see this come out to the table on his or her birthday?
