When you look in the mirror, what do you see, and how does it make you feel? With photoshopped models and unrealistic expectations, everyone has likely suffered from a poor body image at one point or another. It's unfortunate, but it's a reality for many, especially women.
In Fat Is Not A Feeling, spoken-word poet Caroline Rothstein delivers an inspiring and powerful message that every woman should hear. In the video, Rothstein, who personally suffered from an eating disorder, explains why you should love your body.
She opens up about her past, explaining that she first felt fat when she was four years old and began starving herself at age 11. It wasn't until her younger brother died in a car accident nearly a decade later that she got a huge wakeup call.
"Everyone only gets one body in their lifetime. I knew I had to start treating mine differently. I made a choice to love my body for the rest of my life. Every single day," she explains in the video.
She drives home the point that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and body type is all subjective. We have one life to live and should stop body shaming ourselves and others. So ladies, embrace your bodies and love yourselves. A positive body image starts with you.
