Priest Surprises Bride And Groom With A Performance Of “Hallelujah”

With so much time and effort going in to planning a wedding, you want everything to be absolutely perfect…and leave no room for any surprises.

However, as we've seen time and time again here at Little Things, sometimes a great surprise can truly take a couple's wedding day from ordinary to unforgettable. When Irish couple Leah and Chris O'Kane were preparing for their big day in April 2014, they didn't want anything unusual to happen. They were prepared for a regular wedding, along with all of their guests at St. Brigid's Catholic Church in Oldcastle, Ireland, when the one person they thought wouldn't keep any secrets from them gave the couple the surprise of a lifetime.

As Father Ray Kelly stepped up to bless the newlyweds during their ceremony, an unexpected, yet familiar tune started to fill the church. What happened next was absolutely extraordinary. The pastor surprised everyone in the church, especially Chris and Leah, with an impromptu performance of the beautiful song "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen. Father Kelly changed the lyrics a bit to coincide with the sacrament of marriage, but it was still just as beautiful as the original.

We recently shared this equally touching story of a bride's brother, who surprised her and her groom with the same song during their ceremony. Since Father Kelly's version has been played more than 45 million times, it's safe to say he was probably influenced by the amazing performance below.
