Dog people, mind your woes. It appears our cat overlords are well on their way to winning over your hearts in their ongoing quest for world domination.
In an adorable new video, a young rescue kitten named Finn shows off his skill doing a really unordinary cat thing: playing fetch. And while this isn't completely unheard of, it's a neat reminder that cats are great at doing things other than sleeping all day (or alternatively, leaving "presents" on your doormat).
So what's all this co-opting of dog tricks about? As the nice folks over at Petcentric point out, fetching may actually satisfy a cat's natural inclination to hunt and catch prey. "Cats are not generally known for following commands," they write. "But it's not a huge stretch to imagine why cats would enjoy chasing a moving object when you consider how the game mimics a hunt."
Petcentric has some cool tips for teaching your lazy cat how to play, too, such as throwing from the same place to encourage him or her to bring the tossed toy back to you. (We wish you the very best of luck trying to persuade your cat to do, you know, anything.) They also suggest using a toy with bell or sound.
As for Finn, it seems he's been paired with the ideal caretakers. "I'm a cat person and my girlfriend is a dog person," says Finn's owner Teddy, "so it's nice to have a pet that satisfies so many different variables."
