Firefighter Eats At Restaurant, One Hour Laters Sees 30 Customers Acting Weird From CO Poisoning

It's not entirely uncommon nor irrational to believe that eating food made outside your kitchen can make you sick to your stomach. After all, it's preparation is out of your control: you assume that the cooks know how to prepare meat, for example, or will take into account your allergies once they are aware of them.

Of course, if you eat out often, you're bound to have a meal or two that has you running to use the restroom! Surely, this is likely what firefighter Lonnie Wimmer thought when he witnessed 30 or so diners at the River Ridge Tap House in Clemmons, NC.

Wimmer was in the building, enjoying a birthday dinner with friends. An hour and a half into the dinner, he noticed the diner partons acting strange, looking nauseated and clutching their bellies in agony.

Then he realized he was witnessing a symptom of carbon monoxide poisoning.

He called his fire department, and authorities confirmed that the origin of everyone's illness was, indeed, the silent killer, coming from a natural gas source.

Thankfully, the firefighter's quick thinking managed to save the customers in time!

Authorities recommend that you recognize the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning (nausea, weakness, dizziness, blurred vision, and shortness of breath, according to the Mayo Clinic), and that you install a detector in your home!
