We all know that firefighters are heroes, but sometimes they go even more above and beyond their call of duty.
They save lives every single day — whether they rescue people from burning buildings or from rough waters, or save cats from precarious locations, they are always going out of their way to rescue those in need.
The fire department in Roseville, California, is just like other departments around the country. Their members dedicate themselves to service every time they show up at the firehouse. None of them ever expect worldwide recognition for just doing their jobs, no matter how much they may deserve it.
Recently, though, they did something that made the national news.
Roseville Fire Department's Engine 5 responded to a medical call, which was nothing unusual. It was what they did afterward that surprised people everywhere.
Instead of leaving when the father had to accompany one of his children to the hospital, the firefighters stayed to babysit.

The Roseville Fire Department shared a photo and video of the incident on their Facebook page, where it got a lot of attention.
Within just two days, the post had over 2,200 likes and over 160 shares.

They wrote:
Engine 5 responded to a medical call this afternoon where the patient (who is a minor) had to be transported to the hospital by AMR with the dad.

The Engine 5 crew stayed with the sibling until mom, who was out at the time, could come home.
During this time Engineer Burns did a great job keeping her entertained reading books!

Instead of forcing the dad to take his other child to the hospital, or making him stay home while his kiddo went to the hospital, these firefighters stepped up to the plate and took on another title: babysitter.

Although babysitting definitely isn't in their job description, the Engine 5 crew didn't think twice about taking on a new task.
Everyone who saw the post was blown away, and they expressed their support for the firefighters in their comments.

One person commented, "Blessings come from the most unexpected places!"
Another women expressed her relief at seeing a post like this, writing:
Love this so much, I wonder about details of an emergency in our home. My daughter with autism would not handle going to the hospital without me, now I can rest assured she would be in good hands until help arrives. Thanks Roseville!

Another woman shared her own story, writing:
I was hurt badly several years ago. My husband was at the gym and my 3 kids were home with me. Officers offered to stay with my kids too until someone could come watch them. I’m so touched that they continue to take that worry away from sick or injured parents. You’re the best!!!
