A 66-year-old man who has spent most of his life in the United States says that he just found out he's not actually a US citizen. Jimmy Klass lives in Florida and came to the US when he was 2 years old, he told News 6 Click Orlando. His mom was Canadian and his dad was American. Jimmy thought that he became a US citizen when he moved to the US at age 2. He had no reason to think that he wasn't a citizen, he explained to the outlet; he even has a Social Security card, a driver’s license, and a voter registration card.
So how did Jimmy come to find out that he's not actually a US citizen? He told News 6 that the Social Security Administration sent him a letter saying that he hadn't proven his citizenship in 2020 when he applied for Social Security retirement benefits.
Receiving the letter was confusing for him because he has spent most of his life acting "like a regular citizen."
Jimmy told News 6 that he has a photo ID card, has voted in federal elections, and was eligible for Medicare without any issues. Additionally, he was accepted into the Marine Corps, according to the outlet.
He added that he reached out to US Citizenship and Immigration Services in attempt to resolve the issue, but it has not helped yet.

He has "paid into Social Security [his] entire life," he told News 6, but he has not been able to receive his Social Security benefits.
His attempts to get the benefits have reportedly cost him "thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars," and he has had to start working again.
