English Woman Debuts ‘Big Bob,’ Her Subway-Sandwich-Sized Goldfish

Not all of us usually look at a fish and think, "What a wonderful, majestic pet it would make."

Though fish aren't commonly considered the most lively of pets, we absolutely love these beautiful marine creatures here at LittleThings — like this little goldfish that got a second chance at life!

However, few love their finned friends more than Anne Cooper, a proud mother and pet owner from England.

Three years ago, she purchased her amazing goldfish, Bob, at a pet store. Then just a tiny one-inch goldfish, Bob would eventually blossom — or rather, balloon — into an incredible, full-grown fish.

Bob also has quite an extraordinary personality, and he seems to be quite aware of everything that goes on around him. He even acts in a very surprising way when he doesn't get fed on time…

Anne Cooper, 56, has owned her beloved goldfish for over three years. When she first bought ‘Big Bob’ from a pet store in Scarborough, northern England, he was only an inch long.

Over the years, however, he rapidly outgrew four of his fish tanks, and now measures the same length as a six-inch-long Subway sandwich.

Big Bob has a rather violent temper: he demands to be fed garden peas twice a day, and even has a Sunday lunch. He thrashes around angrily if he’s not fed on time.

He also hates the color red, and charges at the glass when he sees a red object nearby.

'He is quite intimidating to the cats, who often approach him, but if he moves suddenly, they run away in fright,' Anne told the Daily Mail of her cats, Smudge and Cassie.

In fact, Bob thrashes around so much that water routinely splashes out of the tank. Anne and her partner, Joe Archer, 43, have to keep electrical items far away from the fish tank.

Ray Rich, 60, a goldfish breeder and an editor at the Goldfish Society of Great Britain, marvels at Bob’s size. 'Goldfish usually grow with their environment, so if they are in a large space and are fed enough, they do sometimes just keep growing,' he said.

Even though Bob definitely looks frightening ('It’s almost like he is the boss of the house!' says Anne), he never would have grown to his size today if Anne hadn’t nourished and cared for him like she did. Great job, Anne!

Big Bob is, without a doubt, one of the most fascinating pets that we have ever seen!
