Football Player Learns How To Farm On YouTube, Then Decides To Give Crops Away To Hungry Kids

When Jason Brown was playing football, he was on top of his game. But it wasn’t everything he wanted.

After losing his brother to combat, Jason realized there was something missing from his life and he needed to do something about it.

When he turned 27, the same age his brother was when he died, he knew it was the right time to make a major change.

So instead of signing another multimillion-dollar NFL contract, he decided to give it all up so he could buy a farm.

But not just any farm.

Jason’s North Carolina farm, which he calls First Fruits Farm, doesn’t grow crops for profits. Instead, the food that’s grown goes directly toward feeding the hungry.

Jason is not a natural farmer. He actually learned by watching videos on YouTube. But thanks to a group of volunteers, he’s doing just fine.

The first harvest at First Fruits was all donated to feed the hungry. November 2016's crop was more than 250,000 pounds of sweet potatoes.

“I really don’t want any type of notoriety," Jason said, "other than for people to say, ‘That’s just some kid from the country who can play a little football, but look at what he’s doing with his life right now. If he can do it, then I can do it.'”

Jason will continue to grow his farm and its reach in the community. He will also keep living by his favorite phrase, “Never stop giving, never stop loving, and never stop growing.”
