He Fills An Ice Cube Tray With Fresh Herbs. The Reason? GENIUS!!

There's no ingredient out there that makes a home-cooked meal taste better than fresh herbs. Whether it's fresh oregano, basil, parsley, or many of the other yummy, fragrant herbs you can buy (or grow), they always taste better when they're fresh. Sure, dried herbs can work when you're in a pinch, but what if you could keep your herbs fresh all year round?

That's always been the rub with fresh herbs, right? They spoil too soon and, before you even realize it's been a few days, your beautiful green parsley is now sitting in the refrigerator all wilted and sad-looking.

Well, thanks to the One Pot Chef Show, those days of letting your fresh herbs go to waste are now over.

In this video, the One Pot Chef shows you how you can keep those herbs tasting fresh much longer by freezing them in ice cube trays for future use.

All you need to do is finely chop up your fresh herbs (he even says in the comments that this trick works with garlic as well!) and place the chopped herbs into a clean ice cube tray. Next, you fill each compartment in the ice cube tray with a little bit of olive oil.

Now, all you have to do is place the ice cube tray in the freezer to let it set up. Once solid, the olive oil will freeze up into a white-ish color with the herbs suspended inside of it.

Pop the olive oil cubes out of the ice cube tray and pop them into a standard freezer bag until you need to use them.

When you have a recipe that calls for that specific fresh herb, all you have to do drop a cube into a hot frying pan. Within seconds, the olive oil will liquify again and you've got yourself an herb-infused olive oil cooking in your pan. Feel free to use that for whatever dish you're making.

What a simple trick! In fact, it's so simple that I'm surprised I never thought of it before. Looks like I'm going to be filling ice cube trays with fresh herbs tonight!
