I have to admit, I never thought a commercial for General Electric would bring a tear to my eye…but this one definitely hit all the right spots.
While robots and sci-fi technology are evolving a bit differently than we originally thought they would — with iPhones and Androids instead of Cylons and androids! — we still think this commercial is pretty amazing!
The video starts simply enough: GE is explaining that they're designing some of the best, most advanced robots in the field, and all the other robots want to go to work and see these new inventions, too!
All our favorite robots from television and the movies are in this awesome commercial. It's a veritable "who's who" of the robot world: Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet, and what appears to be Johnny Five from Short Circuit, and even the friendly NAO Robots getting off the subway!
Then, to top things off, it moves to the inside view of Knight Rider's KITT — unfortunately without David (don't hassle the) Hasselhoff inside. But that's all made OK at the very end, when we get to see one of our favorite cyborgs from Star Trek: The Next Generation!
While there isn't any R2-D2 or C-3PO from Star Wars, or Pixar's Wall-E, we're still very happy with this heartwarming video.
Hopefully, as these robots grow in intelligence, they'll remember never to harm humans…but we're sure the people at GE won't accidentally make Isacc Asimov's original vision come true!
