When You See What’s Approaching This Diver, You’ll Scream!

When a few divers explored the waters along the coast of Tasmania, Australia, they were surprised to discover what dwells in that part of the sea. While out with Eaglehawk Dive Centre, videographer Michael Baron captured a rare moment when the group was approached by a giant pyrosome.

The pyrosome, which looks like a giant inflatable tube, may seem like one massive creature, but it's actually thousands of animals floating together in the gelatinous tube. While we've seen some terrifying sea monsters, like this black seadevil that looks just as horrifying as it sounds, this pyrosome is actually quite beautiful.

"One long pyrosome is actually a collection of thousands of clones, with each individual capable of copying itself and adding to the colony," writes marine biologist Rebecca Helm in Deep Sea News.

The largest one discovered to date exceeded 40 feet in length! Although these deep sea divers were brave enough to get up close and personal with the sea monster, it's worth noting that you shouldn't get near one.

Can you believe something like this exists close enough to land that you can see it just while diving off the coast? Just imagine swimming along and meeting one of these things in the sea!
