Life can throw us unexpected curve balls, but it's how we deal with those obstacles that truly matters.
Just take this young woman, for example, who was born with microcephaly and was told she would never be able to walk. Boy, did she prove everyone wrong!
On February 8, 2017, we learn about Qian Hongyan's struggle and — most importantly — her triumph over what seemed to be impossible.
Qian Hongyan lost both her legs at the young age of 4. Due to her family's poor financial situation, she had extremely limited options when it came to mobility assistance. So in a desperate attempt to help, Qian's grandfather gave her a basketball to substitute as her lower body, but little did he know he gave her much more than a way of getting around. Grandfather gave Qian hope.
Qian was determined to not let her disability define who she was, so she pushed her limits until she was invited to join a swimming team for disabled people. Once that began, there was no stopping her. More good things just kept coming.
Fast-forward to when she was 16, and Qian started to compete in the Paralympics. It only took her a few years to win her very first gold medal in the the 100 meter breaststroke at the Yunnan Provincial Paralympic Games.
Not only does her story serve as an inspiration for all those battling the same disability, but to all those who have faced physical and mental challenges, and continue to push the limits regardless of the odds.
