If you were to ask 12-year-old Jenna Basham of Clarksville, Indiana, who her dad is, she would reply that the title belongs to Jon Beyke, her mom's husband. She decided to write him a letter that exemplified this.
This wasn't just any letter. In her handwriting was a request that would move Jon to tears.
This letter was a defining moment for Jenna.
According to her mom, Tonya Beyke, Jenna's biological dad is out of the picture, and her first stepdad, Ronnie Basham, died before her second birthday.
Tonya remarried a little over three years ago, to Jon, and he has been in Jenna's life ever since.
On Tuesday, March 21, Jenna presented Jon with the letter, and in the video below, he reads it out loud while Tonya films.
"'Dear Daddy," Jon read. "I love you with all my heart! You are the awesomess [sic] dad in the world! You complete me, your [sic] my other half, and I—'"
But there, he had to stop. He choked up, and had to hesitate before reading the next line.
"I would love if you would adopt me."
Once he was done reading the sweet letter, he had a simple answer for Jenna.
"Yeah, I would. Absolutely," he said, and the dad and daughter embraced tightly, showing that love conquers all, no matter what a legal paper says.
