In 1959, the Mattel toy company debuted the doll that would change the face of little girls' entertainment forever. Naming her "Barbie," she featured beautiful blond hair, a tiny waist, and gorgeous makeup. That's exactly how she would remain, apart from a few updates and special editions, until just a few days ago when the company announced their shocking new designs.
Understanding a need for more diverse representation for the youngsters enjoying their dolls, they will be issuing a range of different ethnicities, body sizes, and facial features with these fresh new looks. The drastic changes have been applauded across the Internet since they revealed the lovely ladies, but what about those who will actually be playing with the toys? What do they think of their favorite gal's new appearances?
Glamour magazine sat down a few young Barbie fans to ask them just that. They explain how much they love the dolls they already own, but when they show them the new versions? Their little eyes just light right up! They love seeing a more realistic and relatable female figure. One girl explains, “You can relate to them more now that they’re not all the same.” They don't even miss all the gaudy makeup we're so used to seeing on the classic doll.
