Philo Gravitt Hopes That God Will Forgive The Men Who Attacked Him

This man is a truly good person, and an inspiration for us all! It takes a lot to forgive someone who has harmed you. It takes an even bigger heart to hope that God will forgive those who have done wrong.

Philo Gravitt is one such big-hearted individual. Even after being “robbed, ran [sic] over, and left for dead,” Gravitt still hopes that God will have mercy on the three men that attacked him.

Gravitt, an Oklahoma resident in his seventies, was walking his dog when the men pulled up to him in a pickup truck. They asked him for directions and a few dollars for gas, both of which he gave them willingly and with an open heart.

But the criminals took advantage of his generous spirit. Not satisfied with a few dollars, they tried to grab the whole billfold. But Gravitt, a retired firefighter and Army veteran, wasn’t going to give up without a fight.

He hung on as they drove off. They dragged him for several feet through the open truck door, and, when he eventually fell, they ran over his leg and sped off.

Fortunately, like the little girl involved in a similar hit-and-run, Gravitt made it through the incident with nothing but a few cuts and scrapes. The police are still looking for the perpetrators, but Gravitt is turning the other cheek.

“I ask the Lord to show them mercy because He showed me mercy when I needed it…Any human beings that would do that to another human needs all the mercy they can get.”
