‘Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.’ Sings Incredible Version Of ‘The Impossible Dream’

The classic song "The Impossible Dream" has been sung by hundreds of talented performers over the years. From Frank Sinatra to Elvis, this incredible song strikes a chord in whomever is lucky enough to hear it performed; with its uplifting and inspiring lyrics in spite of the impossible odds, if sung correctly, this song will lift the souls of a whole audience and bring a tear to everyone's eyes.

But in what is arguably the most memorable performance of the classic song comes from one of the most unlikely characters in television history. None other than the lovable Gomer Pyle, originally from The Andy Griffith Show, this gentle-hearted and kind mechanic may have been simple, but he turned out to have a singing voice like none other!

Jim Nabors' character was so beloved by the masses, that he eventually got his own spin-off show in which Gomer joined the United States Marine Corps titled Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. The show was quite popular, but as America began to get more and more involved with Vietnam, the public grew a bit wary of the premise.

Nabors himself recalled that many of the actual Marines whom he worked with on the show went on to serve honorably, and several men that he knew were killed in action. As you watch this incredible clip below, you'll see why Nabors will always be loved by his fans; not only was he hilarious, but his singing abilities were absolutely stunning to listen to.
