As Michigan Carnival Ride Spins Out Of Control, Frightened Bystanders Prevent Tragedy

Heart-stopping footage was captured at the annual National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan.

Visitors near the Magic Carpet Ride heard a a loud bang as the base of the ride lost its bearing and started violently swaying back and forth — with panicked riders strapped into their seats.

Whether it was because of a computer glitch or a technical malfunction, the ride spun out of control. The frightening incident was captured in a scary video that's been going viral ever since.

Worried bystanders rushed over and tried to help the riders. They heroically gathered at the base of the ride and used their collective weight to pull it back to the ground, preventing it from tipping over completely — which would have been an absolute tragedy.

For a few minutes, it seemed the ride was bound to topple over.
